This morning I had my check up appointment, which I thought it was with my hygienist. For my surprise it was the appointment to measure again the deep of my pockets. (I have periodontal disease). Well there is a lot improvement but my molars are still 7s, its really better than before but still hight numbers! The rest show 3,2 and even 1’s some measures 4’s. I was a little disappointed, sad, hopeless ... but I know this is a long journey after 20 years without see a dentist. what options I have: 1. Do surgery.. and clean under my gums where the deep cleaning couldn't reach. Here is the problem is $1385 per quadrant. (This is the better option) 2. Do a periodontal maintenance cleaning every 3 months and a deep cleaning every year. I don’t know what to think, what to do. If I choose cleanings every 3 months will improve or is just for stop getting worse? 3. Go to a general dentist ( at this moment Im with a periodontal specialist) and he can do a referral that I need to see my specialist and he can deal with the insurance that I have and see IF the insurance covers “something” but even with some help is still a lot money. This take 4 to 6 weeks to receive an answer from the insurance. Sorry to come here to ask but still working on my fear of talk about treatments, I feel so silly! At least I asked if there some cavities o anything else to fix, good thing zero cavities just dealing with gums disease ?.

Hi VVD,

thank you for your update, it sounds like while you still have some problem areas, there are also some that really got improved and that's good news. I can't give you any advice about what option to chose but would wanted to say: please do not feel silly! I know this is hard, but your are doing very well and getting back on track after 20 years (and surely some really awful experiences in the past) is a huge achievment. You can always come here and ask for support or advice and that's what this site is for.
If it helps, during my first about ten visits I wasn't able to discuss anything about treatment in person with my dentist, I would have to send in all questions via email (which was hard enough). In this stage even single treatment-related words would lead me to shut off in my head and stare into space or interrupt my dentist to prevent him from keeping on talking or once I even stood up suddenly and run out of the surgery because he mentioned a treatment word I couldn't cope with (I told them I would come back and eventually come back after getting some fresh air outside, but you should have seen the receptionists face as I walked by).
So again, nothing is silly, you are working on beating your fear and doing progress and that's great.

Hope someone will be able to give you an advice about the treatment options as well.

All the best wishes and keep us posted!
