Hello all! Like a lot of you I’m not a huge fan of the dentist. I hadn’t had dental insurance for a very long time and I just went to the dentist for the first time in years last year. I’ve never been diagnosed but I believe I have TMJ. I got a cleaning and xrays and a plan of action on my first visit.

Unfortunately I have a lot of cavities to fill (I think at least 8) I got 2 of them filled earlier this month, I had another appointment last week to get two more filled but I had to reschedule it for mid November. My wisdom teeth are all decayed and broken and I need to have them removed as well. I was actually going to ask about doing that at my next appointment.

About 3 days ago I started to feel a sharp discomfort in my neck/throat on the right side just under my jaw. In addition to that my right ear was feeling a bit “sharp” as if it needed to pop like I was on a plane. Behind it and in the canal is where I feel that most. It wasn’t horrible but not super comfortable. That has been coming and going. I also have some pain/discomfort in my right side wisdom tooth area top and bottom.

My upper area under my cheek bone has been sore on and off ever since I had my molar filled earlier this month. It does give me a bit of pain when chewing on the side. The right side of my neck (mostly just under my jaw on the side) is now slightly sore but I’m not having trouble breathing at all and I don’t have a fever. I’ve been trying to floss and use mouth wash to keep it all clean as I can. Should I call my dentist about this now or wait it out over the next 3 weeks? It’s been three days and it hasn’t necessarily gotten worse but it also hasn’t gotten better.

Totally give them a call! It might be something simple but just in case it’s always best to check in to get the dentist help. I hope it goes away for you soon!

Hi Stindall,

this all depends on how much discomfort you are having currently and if it feels like something that can wait or not. There can be a lot of reasons for your pain. It might also mean that some of the teeth need a treatment a bit quicker than planned. If you got a tooth filled recently and it doesn't feel right, you should get it checked at any case as the filling might need to get adjusted.

All the best wishes

Thank you everyone. I did end up calling them last night because while it wasn’t THE WORST pain ever it doesn’t seem to be going away. I’ve got a date to remove two of my wisdom teeth in a few weeks and a course of antibiotics because I did have an infection.

That sounds awful. Good to hear that you have it taken care of now. Keep us posted.

Just an update I ended up getting two wisdom teeth removed, one on each side. It doesn’t hurt too much but I’m terrified of eating for fear of dislodging the clot! One of them was sutured up with dissolvable stitches. I’ll get the other two out I think in January.

Hope the healing goes well for you and the stitches stay nice and in till you are all healed up. sounds like you are being really careful.
