Just new here so please bear with me as l'm not great with technology. ln light of this l'll just give a brief introduction and check back here tomorrow to see if l can find it again.

l'm in the uk and am having dental implants from an inept dentist. Realised this early on but fear kept me returning...i'll try to explain later. There has been poor treatment all along, progressing to surgery without my consent and finally he burnt my mouth whilst taking impressions! l called a halt to treatment and made a verbal complaint about the burn. The senior partner agreed to finish the work and did further surgey accordingly.... aftre he asked what the problem was and l told him of the other dentist's dismissive attitude, burning me and surgery without consent. I was booked in for the last surgery for 2 weeks later (a monday ) but the friday afternoon before then l got a call saying the senior partner wanted a meeting instead to sort the issues out before any further treatment could be done!!?? So here l am, emails back and forth and no sign of a resolution and no teeth for the forseeable future.:(

Sorry, probably not making much sense, totally stressed, scared, angry and lost:cry:
Thanks for letting me rant.

My advice would be to ask for all your money back (how much have you paid upfront?) and go to an implant placement practice instead. Maybe the Senior Partner is concerned that he would also be out of his depth?

You could complain to GDC about first dentist being out of his depth and harming you, but they can't make financial recompense awards.
There is also for UK private dentistry the GDC funded dental complaints service: https://dcs.gdc-uk.org/

It would probably be a good idea to consult a third party dentist who is experienced in implants to advise what you need going forward to help you make your case for redress. NB surgery without consent is a very serious allegation.

Best wishes and hope you find a way forward soon. No idea how you can burn someone during an impression by the way but I am not a dentist, just a patient.

Thank you so much for this. l have just replied in detail and tried to post it but l had to log in again so lost it. I am actually crying with anger and frustration. Will try again later. It's such a relief to have found this site and l really appreciate your input. Bless you.

Your story seems a little detailed but I also have a complicated situation so know how frustrated you are not getting anywhere. Message me if you want :)

Thank you so much for your reply and offer of messaging you. I will try to do that later if lmay.

I used to have a dentist I trusted and had no issues with him or his staff. I was a complete dental phobic before meeting him and his office. they always had a way of setting me at ease, I knew I had finally found my dental office to call home. Unfortunately I had to move away from the state  Before I left him though I needed an implant placed. I would'nt have trusted anyone else to do that implant in my life. Trust your gut feeling on this one LadyQ. This is a big procedure with a lot of investment, you deserve the best care possible and important to get it done right the first time, its already agonizing having to go in the first place

You are so lucky to have a dentist in whom you have complete trust and hope you find another when you move.

My gut instinct was to run for the door long before this but fear kept me going back...makes no logical sense but l guess l knew no one else would finish the work so l to tried to constantly appease him in the hope he might treat me better. I am one step away from having my final restoration but can't get the work done because l dared to make a complaint.

I have paid less than half the cost but don't believe l can justify not paying the rest as l did not complain about the actual work done only the other serious issues. These boys are implantologists with masters degrees and the senior dentist is technically superior.

I have been in touch with the GCS as l inderstood they mediate and thought these are the boys for me. However after l gave the details, they said it was such a serious complaint that they would report it to the GDC. However, l explained my situation about the difficulty in getting the treatment finished......l live in a small community and no other dentist will review my situation let alone be responsible for anothers' work. GCS said they were obliged to report him to GDC and closed my case! GDC are now looking for full details but l explained again my circumstances, they gave me a weeks' extention.

Not sure what goes on in my mouth as he is working but when he did the impression...it was always tray full of goo, wait, out, job done.....he asked for floss which he wound rount my implants then shoved some goo round the floss and then used a "wand", presumably to set it, and that's when it burnt.

Still heard nothing back from them apart fro saying they were waiting to hear back from their indemnity providers. I have never had any communication from the practice manager who happens to have the same surname as the dentist. Curious.

This is a reply to brits post, just to clarify.

Sorry to moan again but my dentist assured me they would contact me on 17th July......3 weeks after a meeting with them to resolve the issues asap....to inform me of a treatment plan for the completion of my final restorations. Lo and behold no contact was made! Meanwhile the GDC are anxious for me to give full details of the complaints so they can start an investigation. Because of the seriousness of the complaint, the GDC have said they can investigate my complaint without my engagement but I feel that to do so would be disingenuous to that investigation. However, I would prefer to settle the matter " in house " and withdraw my complaint but with no contact from them and pressure from the GDC what do I do now?

I have no idea what to do next because I really just want my teeth ( after over a year of treatment ) but if I ailienate them by engaging with the GDC, I may well be sucking my food for the rest of my life! Any advice would be extremely welcome. Angry , scared and confused.

Still no word from my dentist on how they intend to finish my treatment, this is after a month now! All because l dared make a complaint. They are in breach of contract and ignore my emails....any advice welcome as l am at my wit's end. Thanks,

Thanks for this reply.....l have just been told by this senior partner that l cannot have the teeth l thought l was getting because of the position of the implant! I asked if it was in the wrong position and he said no, it's in the bone.....hello...position? He said l could only have prominent teeth!!!!! Really? Do l hve to settle for this? He said l would get used to them!! Crying with frustration. Help?

Ladyquicksilver,

So sorry what is happening to you, it is scary in the first place to have something new done in your mouth but to have issues like this would be super stressful and frustrating.. I switched myself after the orignal implant was placed because I no longer felt a peace with the original dentist.. doesn't sound like there are many options but I really hope you can reach some sense of resolve and peace and someone come along to help you with this..

Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to me. I have some good news...l think. I managed to get a second opinion today ( difficult as l live in a small community ) and guess what.....he thought the work was so badly done that l'd gone to a cheap dentist abroad! He said the implants were in the wrong position and that's why l will be left with prominent teeth and that one of the implants was so far out of the bone that it was already compromised!!! He did offer to help me gain a better result though he said it was a complex case but that he was up for the challenge. He also asked if his partner could asses the situation and she said exactly the same. his manner was so different from the the dentist l am with, he made me feel like my concerns mattered and that my fears were validated....result, l cried. he put his hand on my arm and said...it's ok, no one had died and l can help you. More tears. He said to think about his offer, no pressure, and he didn't charge me for consultation or x ray. Plenty of tears. His advice was to let the other dentist fit the prominent teeth as there is no further cost to me and if l can't live with them, get back to him. He said they at least will be better than what l have been left with.....temporary denture ( which l have had for 18 months ) which is not functional as the back teeth don't meet so l sort of squish my food with my front teeth although they are not secure and fly out of my head. I have found it difficult to get a solicitor to take on the case but today l did, all he needs is a written report from my saviour dentist as to what he found wrong and we'll sue the hell out of him. Apologies for the rant, thanks for listening. Wish me luck please.

So happy to hear you got a second opintion and that he and his partner were so helpful , and kind and really validating ..wow.. Seems like just a real peace.. I hope it all comes together and turns out.. and hope you can go to the new guy you just met that listens and seems so nice and also very competant!! Thanks for the report!!

Thank you again for your support. I don't want to get too excited yet but am feeling much more positive and so much of the stress l have been under for so long has dissipated. I am to get my final restoration buggs bunny teeth in 2 weeks  but am hoping l can at least have a good meal, then see where we go from there. Thanks to all who have encouraged me. xx
