Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I'm in need of an implant. A recent visit to my dentist reveals that a root canal I had a couple of years ago was infected and I had an abcess.

The dentist says I can either see a root canal specialist, have a plate or have an implant.

I'm only in my 20s and I would feel really self conscious with a plate so I want an implant, but they're so expensive, and all research I try to do is hard because of all the different elements they charge for.

Can anyone run me through how much replacing a single tooth with an implant would likely be all in. Any recommendations on locations would be great too!

Many thanks,

Hello,

I've done a lot of research into this as I need to replace my lower first molar.

The price really varies I think on which tooth but for mine, the place I went to quoted £1500 to include the implant and crown. If I need a bone graft, that will be an extra £500 or so. I won't know until my 3 month check up if I need a bone graft.

My dentist however charges £2500.

You just need to do some research. Where do you live?

Hi the question is whether you fancy redoing the root canal or whether it is completely unsalvageable and needs removing. Normally a tooth that needs redoing has a 60-70% survival if all the canals can be adequately cleaned and filled.

If you're thinking of a dental implant then again the cost is determined by the experience/training of your dentist and your location. Dentistry in the States is pretty expensive versus the UK. Dentistry in London is much more than another major city such as Edinburgh. Anyway cheaper does not mean better so make sure you see someone who is experienced if you're planning dental implants. £2000 mark on average sounds about right for one tooth in the UK
