I just got full immediate dentures last wed and my life is now being sucked away by the pain from canker sores. Its the worst pain I have ever had aside from my famous old toothaches lol I cant even get my lower denture in most of the time because the pain is effing unreal! please someone help me find a remedy. im going insane

Can't, is it actually canker sores causing the problem or bony ridges and spiky spots rubbing on the denture? If it's the former, a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip will make them heal faster (burns like a bugger for the first few seconds, though.) If it's the latter, your dentist can smooth the bone down for you and make you more comfortable.

I think my oral surgeon did this when he pulled mine, he grinded down some bone structure, I was awake most of the time.

Sorry to hear about your sores cantwait2smile, hope it gets better for you, and it should.

My mother had hers pulled out as young adult and she cant wear her bottoms, everybody ive talked too say the bottom is the hardest to wear..

I am certain they are just cankers they seem to get better at night then get huge and sore at the end of the day when i take out my lowers. however today wasnt so bad. heres for hoping!

I had pressure ulcers on my lower tori that would hurt like the dickens the first few weeks. When I removed my lower denture at night, they'd go from sore to screaming for a little while before settling down. They'd feel better in the morning after resting, and then hurt like crazy again when I put my teeth back in. It was a vicious cycle for a while, but they finally healed and toughened up.

Naproxin (Aleve) helped some, as did the soft relines, but time was the biggest help.

Canker sores and dentures

This may seem obvious to dental professionals yet I did not know that continued rubbing of my denture against a canker sore prevented the canker sore from healing. My dentist made an adjustment to the denture when he heard my complaint of pain but he didn't tell me the canker sore was caused by the denture rubbing when i chew. My MD felt canker sore is caused by herpes simplex 1. this didn't make sense to me yet he gave me a prescription for Valtrex which is thought to maybe help healing of canker sore. He gave me a referral to a Dental Surgeon who told me to get the remaining two teeth on my lower gum extracted but he did not say the canker sore was caused by the denture rubbing. None said the continued rubbing would prevent the canker sore from healing. I realized the canker sore was not healing because of the continued rubbing when my dentist told me to eat without the dentures but still he didn't tell me the continued rubbing was the reason the canker sore did not heal. I was getting one canker sore after another for five months! the last canker sore was bothering me for seven weeks until i learned that continued rubbing of the sore by the denture was the problem. I hope others can learn from this post. I hope dental professionals be specific when speaking with lay people about canker sore and denture.

There are multiple mistakes.
New dentures cause ulcers by excessive pressure-These aren't canker sores. Denture MUST be adjusted
Canker sores are most likely autoimmune and are treated with immune suppression when medication is used
Antivirals are not used for cancer sores. Valtrex is an antiviral. Valtrex may be sometimes used for herpectic lesions when someone has a cold sore. Cold sores are typically on the lip. Cold sores are contagious and may be particularly bad to immune suppressed and infants/toddlers.

I hope this helps.
