Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help. I have a severe needle phobia. At one time I was rushed into hospital with a suspected heart attack and I wouldn't let the nurse takes bloods.

The problem is my teeth are in really bad shape. I need loads of work doing and that's before the stuff that I'm not aware of!

I did try going to a sedation clinic for dental work. They gave me double dosage tablets that didn't touch me at all. The dentist knelt on my chest pinning my head to the side and forced me to have an injection. This has led me now not to trust dentists either. Ihave also been giving laughing gas. I was laid in the chair for an hour with the mask on. It didn't make me laugh, I just shock violently. I think my adrenaline is going to strong that the sedation can't beat it.

I'm desperate to have the work done. I think my breathe smells because of it and I'm really self conscious.

Is there a dental surgery in Wiltshire that uses sleeping gas or an alternative method to needles so that I can get this work done? I'd really really appreciate the advise

Thanks in advance

Hi Luverble
Welcome to the forum.
To be honest I think that the dental work should take a back step for the time being. You really need to get help with the needle phobia. You have obviously been in situations where bloodwork would have really helped with your treatment and you could not do it. One day you will really need an injection or a drip or something and you will put your life at risk by being too scared to consent.
For your own health you need to work on the needle phobia. Now it may be that you can do this with dental work in mind and one of our posters on here Sparkles used to be quite a bad needle phobic and she now gets treatment with injections. Her dentist is a specialist on dental phobia - he is in Glasgow and is world renowned in the phobia field - his name is Dr Mike Gow. If you could travel to Glasgow....? Or you can look at his website called whatfear.com.
It is also possible to contact your local Community Dental service.
Cheers

For what its worth... if you have a dentist that uses numbing gel and keep your eyes closed you won't even know you have had an injection. I never feel anything when I get locals at my dentists office. I'm not needle phobic in general but I am when it comes to getting them in my mouth for dental work. It surprises me every time how easy it is.
