Hi all. Back in April, I had all four of my wisdom teeth surgically removed. The procedure was amazing, despite my anxieties, but I woke up the day after and still had not regained feeling in part of my mouth. At my two week post-op appointment, my oral surgeon diagnosed lingual nerve damage. The entire left half of my tongue was affected. I was made aware before surgery that this is an EXTREMELY rare complication, and have been going in routinely for follow ups.
At my six week post op appointment, we were able to notice that I gave regained a small amount of feeling at the tip of my tongue on the left side. I could feel movement against the tip of my tongue, and if a lot of pressure is put on the area, I could barely feel it, but I could not discern temperature. There has been no improvement since then.
I was hoping a dentist could be truthful with me about my recovery odds. I know every case is different, but my oral surgeon is being very careful to not say one way or another what my chances for recovery are at this point. I know he is doing this because I made it very clear to them when I had my surgery that I experienced severe dental malpractice when I was young, but at this point, I have adjusted to the damage and would like a blunt answer. I don't want to keep my hopes up high for any more improvement if the odds are heavily against me.
Thank you for reading!
