Newbie here!
Hi I am postop 33 days today, new immediate denture wearer, top & bottom with 19 extractions and bone shaping..i guess is what the doc said! So I have had only horrible experiences, I am so exhausted and get so frustrated! I have had other surgeries in the past.. major back fusion, breast augmentation & lift, also Lasik as well as having 4 kids! I'm 48 btw. I cont to read over ppl who seem not to have as much ordeal as I am going through..i had like 3 great days..after week 2, I thought..yes I can deal with this lil aches and pains..but then beginning week 3, hasn't been the same since! I had to get apt bc my gums hurt so bad, and it seems they will be good for about hr after I take ibuprofen for around 3hrs then back to the same pain..today its been so unbearable! Even in the 2nd week I was able to just take 2 ibuprofen in morning and 2 at nite.. now I have taken all of my IB-800 and a bottle of 18 Tramadol. the last 3 days I have been taking 4-Ibuprofen at least 4x a day..its ridiculous! I have bone coming through.. I have 2 different docs, 1 who did surgery and 1 who gave me the dentures! I cant eat, when I do I am in pain for hours..so I still have to swallow everything, gag on most of it bc its too large to swallow! bottoms always bouncing around and killing my gums, inside my mouth I have sores all over the place...the adhesive kills me as well unless I have taken the ibuprofen at least an hour before! HELP!!! WILL THIS EVER GET ANY BETTER?? I have an apt I made Monday...but when I had an adjustment before, it helped for about 2 days then they were back the same now even worse..thanx for letting me vent!!

You might want to try changing adhesives. It sounds like you could have an allergy or sensitivity to what you are using. And it sounds like the lowers need either replacing or relining.

This is NOT normal at all. I have upper and lower partials for a little over 2 years and the only problem I've had adhesive wise is i had to try a few types to find what worked for me. Mom has upper and lower Full dentures for about 3.5 years top and 2.5 years bottom and same thing.

Hi you will find that you need to go as often as it takes to get the adjustments made to your dentures. I had a denture and I was there three times in two weeks and it only seemed to last a couple of days so this is quite normal. Go back as many times as you need to get these dentures comfortable. It could be that the bottom ones are a bad fit and will need the dentist to reline them or something. They will get lose in time and you will have new ones made when the gums have healed in about 6 months.

The denture you have now should allow you to eat. If you are still unhappy with the teeth after seeing the dentist go and see another for a second opinion. We just had someone on here that was having the same sounding problems as you and the bottom dentures were too big for them and had to be redone. The top set wasn't very good either so the second dentist they saw made new top ones as well.

There is a solution to your problems you just need the dentist to listen to you and correct the problems you are having. The link below is her journal it might help you to read it

I hope your appointment on Monday goes well :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::butterfly::butterfly:

You had many extractions with an immediate denture. So it won't fit for the following reasons.
1: the impression prior to the extractions can't represent how your mouth looks after the surgery as many changes happen.
2: as you heal your mouth changes more and the plastic doesn't
So like Carole said you have to have numerous adjustments.
How can it be better?
This is how I do it.
Remove back teeth first and let the area heal for a couple of months+.
now I can take impressions of a back area that is healed with the right contours and serves as a good reference to obtaining a good bite.
I still have the problem of the front half so when i have removed the teeth and go to deliver the immediate temp denture I always feline with a nice soft silicone like gel.
It still hurts but much much less. I see the patient frequently for adjustments. In fact if we don't hear back we call and get them in to check.
hope this helps

thanx so much

Thanx so much everyone, much better after dentist did soft re-lines yesterday, so much better! Also her suggestions were diff from surgeon so I'm going to try some of hers..I don't actually think I need adhesive now for top anyhow! Oh what a difference it made, I took ibuprofen in morning yest but didn't need at all after the soft re-lines & going w/o in evening...wow, I can handle this..be glad when I'm 3m down the road!
