I went in for 2 fillings and 1 is a deep filling.
It was a horrible experience for me and it's reinforced my fear and lack of trust in dentists. This was a different dentist but I had a dam on which hurt as it got pulled through between my teeth hard, I had clamps of some sort and I couldn't swallow as this sharp metal piece was jabbing my tongue so I gagged a few times. The dam came off once and had to be put on again.
I felt a lot of pain with the drill and jumped and yelled 3 times which then the dentist changed the drill.
I ended up swallowing a bit of aesthetic and I still have some blood now... I took painkillers soon as I got back.
All that in a hour for 1 tooth not been done and the deep filling tooth is just half done - it's cleaned up a bit and just has a temporary filling and have to wait for a month with a 2 hour appointment to get in finished. I once had a temporary filling which came out in about 2 minutes will this really last a month? I got told to chew on the opposite side.
I was fighting a panicking attack and so worried about if this all go ok.... will I go through all that pain for it to fail and get a root canal again (the cost!!)?
People say to me fillings are nothing and don't get what the problem is but I've only had very bad experiences with fillings! I much preferred the root canal and the extraction I had once than this.

My failed deep filling with a different place was all done in one go... I don't remember a dam so I was surprised. I didn't had blood or pain from it either.

This sounds a lot like me. I had never had problems with fillings until November 2024. Two in between the teeth fillings. Within 3 weeks one turned into a root canal around christmas. The other acted up as well and root canal on that tooth months later. And now that other root canal still hurts and I have been told there isn't anything wrong with it. Sorry you are going through this. I have been in your shoes for a while now with no resolution. May have to get my tooth extracted.

@Audpoet Sorry that's happened to you. My one tooth that was filled ended up as a root canal as well and I have an odd pain sometimes but it might be connected to an ear problem as there doesn't seem anything with it. This tooth I had been warned it could end up as a root canal, it's still hurting sometimes so I'm bit worried about it though it's early days still as my gums are still red and sore where the dentist was rough.
It was so bad with this dentist I'm thinking of just finishing this tooth as it's half done but refusing to have my wisdom tooth worked and hope I get passed on to a different dentist!
Are you able to get a second opinion somewhere else about your teeth? Though it's not always easy with how expensive dentists are.

@Little tiger I've has multiple opinions. One thought my root canal might be cracked but 3d and cone beam scan didn't show anything. I had my permanent crown removed and it did help with some pain...but I'm still getting other pain still. I have to make a choice soon on it. The weird thing is that there is a bruised type muscle or nerve you can see at the back of my mouth and I believe that is somehow connected to my tooth sending pain into my jaw even though my tooth is on the top. The area looks a bit lighter since I had my permanent removed but IDK. I get a weird feeling in my ear too along with the bruising jaw pain. Dental steroid paste works wonders when I put it near the tooth and completely eliminates pain....and it comes back when I finish it. It's still puzzling. I even asked if maybe I have nerve damage but two told me they don't think so because of what kind of pain I'm feeling.

Similar boat as you but yeah haven't had any relief or resolution. Sometimes in my jaw the bruised pain feels throbbing. I guess I will monitor what happens in next few weeks with a temp but. I guess I'm just scared what if it's not this tooth but it's the only common denominator. Root canal was good and fine too until tooth was shaved down.

Hopefully we both receive a resolution soon!

@Audpoet That sounds frustrating. Must be something with the tooth and I'm guessing pressure is triggering it off? I think mine is ear connected and I've noticed on days my ear is really bad I get some pain. It's a tricky area because it could even be connected with the nose!

I'm due to go in today. I asked to leave my other tooth alone for now as I chickened out. I have to get this one half done tooth completed so I'll try to deal with that. I'm very nervous now because of last time. So far I've had no pain so I'm hoping the tooth has been saved so I won't need a root canal.

So I've finished the treatment. It went a bit better but I'm in a lot of pain so just took painkillers just now. Deep filling which I really hope it'll be ok as I had been warned it could turn into a root canal but personally I preferred that over the filling! (Apart from the price difference of course)

@Little tiger yeah I still don't have answers mostly just misery but hopefully everything turns out ok.
