In about one week (June 9th) I will be having the final extractions (6 top teeth extractions) before I am fitted with my immediate dentures. Since March I have had 10 teeth extracted, which were broken into 3 appointments. The remaining 6 on top will be extracted June 9th. I am just so anxious about having 6 teeth pulled then to have dentures placed on top of the extractions. The swelling, the bleeding, the pain, Oh my! LoL Not to mention the numbing shots. The roof of my mouth shot!

My dentist did prescribe with my previous extractions and will again 5mg valium to take the night before and day of. I'm so scared!!!! Of the bleeding and swelling and being able to sit for however long 6 extractions take and then the placement of the dentures. Not to mention the pain afterwards. Not only the pain from the extractions, but the pain from having dentures sitting on top of the extraction sites.

What about eating, and talking?? I've heard and read horror stories. I must stop going to Dr. Google!! (my dentist agrees lol) Is there anyone else that has had at least 6 extractions or more then immediate dentures?? Will I be able to work within 3 days of being fit?? Again, I am sooo anxious that I have been having a terrible time getting to sleep, staying asleep, worried while awake since I've received my appointment date. So much so I feel like backing out. Any advise or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for listening

I had 14 extractions for immediate dentures. Top and bottom. I was also given valium as you are going to be. I was horrified if the shots. He had me take a second Valium when I arrived because I was still nervous. They placed the gel first. I had about 15 injections and felt no more than a quick pinch which did not bother me because of the Valium. I took head phones and blasted my music during the entire procedure. That greatly helped. I kept my eyes closed so I didn’t see the needle. Honestly I didn’t even know when I was getting them. It took 45 minutes from the time I left my house until I walked back in my house. I was sore after but was fine by the 3rd day. The worst part was taking the dentures out to clean and rinse my mouth and then putting them back in.

Honestly, take your Valium, keep your eyes closed and listen to your favorite music. It is not as bad as it sounds. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

@Ladydi1724 thank you soooo much for the encouraging words. I appreciate them very much. I will let you know how it all turns out.It sounds like you went through alot more extractions in one sitting then me. The most extractions to date I have had is 3. Still very anxious. Trying to stay busy. Preparing my menu for the next few weeks lol ice cream, yogurt, protein drinks, mashed potatoes but then again I don't have to tell you or others on this site. Again thanks for the kind and encouraging words!!

@Ncbeechbum i have absolutely no advice as i am also needing 4 teeth extracted for dentures but i havent even had moulds done yet im terrified! Well done for getting this far and i hope all goes well please let us know how you get on x

im going to speak totally from the heart on this. The reason i feel like i need to leave this forum is reading posts that make injections sound like nothing, when my own previous lived experience says the total opposite.

Its a total dagger to my heart and almost makes it feel like a personal thing, like the injections arent the problem, I am the problem.

I know its not the intention but it feels that way and to be honest, seeing people on a phobics forum constantly saying who painless and pleasant their experiences are, when my experiences arent and thats why many of us are here in the first place, it makes me feel like unless I share in these painless experiences that im not welcome here.

I think ive long accepted that im phobic for life and maybe it is time to leave the forum once and for all (to everyones delight possibly).

@Ncbeechbum Many apologies, I am a little late in noticing your post. I hope your procedure goes smoothly today.

Your experience sounds similar to my own. I am much farther into the denture journey than yourself. I will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.

After your extractions do make sure you keep on top of, or at least try to minimise the pain. I set alarms to remind myself to take painkillers.

You may find it useful to read through my journal. Because as mentioned above, your situation sounds very familiar to my own. I documented things in quite some detail.

@Stewart I too have terrible fear of the injections after having one done some years ago that was so painful and just awful. I have about ten teeth left in all , I lost the majority under general anaesthesia in South Africa about 18 years ago and since then more over the time . Particularly the last 5 years. I am lucky to have a very patient understanding dentist who took over from the previous owner who was also great with me. They now use something called a wand to administer the injection and it’s very slow which really helps pain wise. I am due to lose another on Friday and I can only hope it doesn’t take 3 weeks to heal like it did in December which means no denture and therefore I will not leave my house . Even though I have had ok experience with the wand I mentioned I’m still incredibly anxious.
I hear you

@smirked I made it thru!! I am so proud of myself. This is day 3 with immediate dentures. I believe the anticipation was worse than the actual procedure.
The numbing shots weren't all that terrible. Once numb the extractions and stitches took maybe 30 minutes . Top Dentures were placed over the extractions and I went home. I do not have my lower partials in yet as the dentist feels I should get used to my top ones. I do have 10 of my own natural teeth on the bottom . I saw my dentist yesterday the next day after all of this. They removed the denture and said I was healing as expected. The dentist assistant made an adjustment to the Denture where I was feeling soreness. I was giving instructions on how to care for myself and Dentures along with samples Etc.

I'm sore but nothing like I imagined the pain would be. The bleeding was controlled by having the teeth in. I have developed another sore spot on the roof of my mouth which honestly has been the biggest issue with this whole process. I have an appointment tomorrow for another adjustment to help with this.

All in all my experience was good. All of my fears and anxiety seems silly now after going through the whole process . My dentist is a wonderful and patient man. His staff is as well. They understood my fears and how being anxious was crippling me to have treatment in the past.

Thanks to all that gave me encouragement with your posts. If I can do this anyone can. Trust in your dentist but most of all in yourself.

@Ncbeechbum Fantastic! That's great, you should be very proud of yourself. It sounds like you went in there quite well prepared.

Well done.

I’m so glad to hear you are doing so well!
