I'm looking to have a severely decayed molar extracted under oral sedation.

Most dentist are charging $200 to $300 for oral sedation. Can I go to my family doctor and have her call it in to the pharmacy and only cost me $6.00?

Would the dentist perform the extraction if I didnt get the Halicon (sp?) from him/her directly?

I was reviewing Questions in the archives....so I will feel no pain whatsoever with the extraction? Should I get the nitrous oxide in addition to the oral sedation to be certain I have little to no pain as possible?

Thank...I'm very nervous. VERY deep cavity that I have packed with some gauze dipped in this blue stuff I got from the hospital (the stuff that can stain your teeth).

Thanks again...

I don't think it's the pill that cost so much but the extra care in monitoring you. The dentists are also passing off the cost of additional training and malpractice insurance they need to offer sedation. A dentist friend (who I don't get care from) told me he can't even afford nitrous, his malpractice cost would be through the roof.

I've seen rates all over the place.
Current dentist-Halcion perscription, no charge- his other fees make up for it. Former general dentist: $98 for a combination of halcion/nitrous or $60 just for the pill which he dispensed.
Endodontist: $303 for a Valium/nitrous, and $397 for Valium/IV sedation which didn't work.
Oral surgeon1 -implants $310 IV sedation (promises I'll be asleep)
Oral surgeon2- 4 extractions: IV sedation (out) - $620 -1 hour

ps: to your edit, I fell asleep with 0.5 Halcion and nitrous- worked really well, I get the same effect though from halcion and hypnosis. The combo also worked just as well for me as IV sedation with valium but I think he was pretty stingy.
