Over-erupted teeth causing an issue

I've been experiencing pain on my left side whenever I bite my teeth together. I visited my dentist recently and he said this is because my upper premolars on the left side have over-erupted.

My teeth are generally worn down due to attrition. I had a study model made a year ago and he said I will need to have another one made next year, so he can assess what stage we are at with the attrition and determine whether or not action is needed.

In reality, is there nothing that can be done about the over-erupted teeth? If I had them extracted would it cause me more issues with my bite?

There's plenty can be done, your dentist can discuss it with you. Extraction is one choice among many.

@Gordon I was surprised he didn't discuss these options with me, especially after me telling him that I was in pain.

What are my other options aside from extraction?

There's a range of things, including:
Orthodontics, guided eruption of the remaining teeth, elective root canal and crown(s), simple mechanical adjustment of the over erupted tooth/teeth.
