Hi everyone,

I had a root canal done about 12 days ago. The tooth is lower right side. The tooth had a deep cavity that I got filled last year, my dentist mentioned last year that he wouldn't be surprised if I needed RCT on it. Then a couple weeks ago I started getting some really bad pains in the area, and pain in the tooth with eating. I had some swelling in my jaw and chin area as well. I went to the dentist and it showed the tooth was quite infected. So I got a root canal done 4 days after. I had been antibiotics for about 3 days before I got the RCT.

I felt so good after getting my treatment. But I noticed this past week I have some slight achy pain in the same area, especially when I look down. I also get tingling in my chin, but no noticeable swelling. I don't have pain in my bite. I felt a swollen lymph node under my jaw, which I know isn't surprising as it could be active from my recent infection. The area also hurts when I press on the outside of my cheek.

I am very worried about there being a reinfection. I did my RCT with an endo. I'm seeing my dentist tomorrow. I plan on asking him to take an x-ray just in case so he can see if there is an infection. I don't have an pus or bad taste in mouth, I don't have swelling or an abscess. The abscess I had with the initial infection was in my lower jaw so I never saw any abscesses. I have googled a lot and people say that sometimes the RCT takes long to heal, like 2-3 months, so I'm wondering if that is my case. I really hope that it was done properly.

It took a lot out of me to get this RCT done, so I'm so fearful of it not working and having to go back to get it redone. Is it normal for pain to linger?
