Hi

I had an upper right molar extracted 6.5 days ago and packing & stitches were put in
4 days ago the packing was changed andd Avogyl put in (the stitches were still intact so he said they should help to hold it in) ... no dry socket but the blood clot dissolved after 1.5 days and the packing had a hole in so I worried

Now everything is still in but there is a white spot in the socket (the rest is stitches/packing) ... when I touch it with a q tip yellow stuff comes off but it doesn't seem to be pus and isn't moving when I use salt water or poke it

I go back Monday if everything is still in place to take it all out but the yellow is making me worry about infection now

Is it ok pls?

It's fine, the yellow stuff will be some of the iodine solution from the Alvogyl, diluted with saliva.

Thank you so much! I have no idea why extractions feel so scary and probably shouldn't keep looking at it .. fingers crossed on Monday it all comes out and no risk of dry socket then on!

Oh you're way, way, way past the risk of a dry socket. Usually they start as soon as the local wears off and certainly within 48 hrs.

@Gordon thank you! One last thing, if that's ok please ... I had the first part of a root canal done before this tooth came out and was told the canals have closed, likely due to things like aging/trauma/infection ... so it'd be very difficult to complete. Is this something only known once in there? He did show me on x ray it'd closed, but didn't mention it until part 1 was being done ... can it be more open once in there than x ray shows and is this something an Endodontist could've worked with? Thanks

Yes, it's pretty hard to be certain from x-rays until you physically try to get into the canals.

Possibly an endodontist with a microscope might have been able to work through the blockage but it's hard to say without seeing.

@Gordon thank you! I know decay was right down to the nerve and he felt he'd likely not be able to open the canals, hopefully he knew Endodontist may struggle too or maybe the tooth was so far gone it was just best off out
