Hi. I have Autism & Anxiety. Sometimes when I am highly stressed, I have a tendency to bite / chew at my lips as I ‘stim’. Usually this isn’t too bad but recently I’ve been under a lot of pressure as I found out about a number of big changes in my care team & noticed I’ve been doing it a lot (I do try not to). Anyway, I’ve made a real mess this time & it hasn’t been this bad since around 3years ago when my Dad passed away / his funeral. Any advise on what I can do to help heal this & also prevent me from doing it as I do try. Thankyou so much for any help or advise.

Nothing really you can do to help it heal, just try to leave it alone for a bit. Lips heal very quickly.

If you can get hold of some Difflam Spray from the chemist and give it a squirt of that a couple of times a day before food, that will take some of the sting out of it when you're eating.

Preventing you from doing it isn't really a dental question, sorry.

Thanks for your help @Gordon. I wasn’t really sure as it rarely gets this bad only sometimes but I’ve never had a dentist (due to fear) & thought I’d maybe ask the question here after I recently discovered this forum. Do you know who would be good or right service to speak to about trying to help manage or stop, or is it just one of those things to live with as a side effect of my other health problems? Thankyou so, so much.

Hi @UnearthedDisc4, a psychologist should be able to help you with this. You can ask your GP for a referral!

Thankyou so much. Really appreciate all of the help & support
