Hi everyone,
I had 6 lower front teeth removed a week ago and got an immediate acrylic partial, it's horrific I have an upper partial after having 8 teeth removed 3-4 weeks ago and thats absolutely fine, apart from a few initial sore spots I've got used to the upper really quickly. I know that lowers are notoriously difficult but this one is really bad; I can't talk, I'm in a lot of pain with it and it made my neighbouring tooth loose within 24 hours. I did go back to my dentist who made some adjustments but to be honest I just think its badly made. She seemed annoyed that I hadn't been wearing it (I took it out when I noticed the problem with my neighbouring tooth) but I literally have no room at all for my tongue - even the dentist said they have made them really thick (especially at the front) - yet doesn't seem to want to do anything about it and expects me to just persevere with it. At the moment this is quickly becoming the worst decision I have ever made in my life She did alter the denture where it was pushing on my tooth but when that didn't work she started scraping at my tooth instead None of it has made a difference and I've lost my faith in her tbh.
Anyway, I'm due to start my final year at uni in a month - I'm doing a course which heavily relies on communicating, its REALLY important I get this sorted, theres no way I'll go back with no teeth! So I've contacted a few local private dentists and asked about flexible dentures. I know my gums will be dramatically changing over the next few months and its not going to be cost effective to pay out for new now, but if I don't I'll miss my final year so don't feel like I have a choice My NHS dentist who did the extractions said flexi's would be ok (I have severe bone loss where the teeth are missing, and little gum tissue arghhh!) but suggested I wait and persevere with the torture falsies (she does flexis too), I just can't!
Do you think flexi's would alleviate the problems I'm having? I don't expect dentures to be perfect, I expect pain in the settling stages, I expect some difficulty talking - I wasn't expecting to not be able to talk at all Plus, the acrylic ones push out my bottom jaw and make it look like I have an underbite - I really can't emphasise enough how bad they are! The new flexis will cost about £550, I know they may only last a few months before need replacing but I'm ok with that - if I don't go back to uni it'll hit me financially so I don't mind a £550 hit if it helps.
Can anyone help? Would flexi's be the best way to go? I don't mind paying the money for a solution, I don't want to pay out for another shelf buddy for my acrylic though
