Hi I posted earlier re a smell tooth after extraction, despite no pain before I did in fact have a dry socket, not only that I had a root that was still infected still deep in the gum, after about half an hour the stubborn bugger finally came out. My dentist has packed the socket with a dressing, on the way home even before the 8 injections wore off I started to experience the worse pain I have ever felt, I assume this is the dry socket pain everyone speaks of, plus all digging around, Have taken 1 paracetamol extra and 400mg of ibuprofen and wrapped ice in a tea-towel to ease the pain, PLEASE WILL IT EVER GO AWAY, I am nearly climbing the walls. *:'(*:'(*:'(

The pain will go away. To be sure, draw in a series of very long deep breaths for several minutes at a time. As you're doing this deep breathing, you should try to clear your mind as much as you possibly can and leave yourself only with the thought and feeling of the pain steadily evaporating into the atmosphere.

If you can manage to calm your nervous system with this method you will see (as I have) that the effect of the pain is really just an emotional distraction that can be tamed.

HI JerBear 23,

Thank you, it took a while but it has finally subsided, a bit like half an hour or so of Cold I Cream on a sensitive root. [smiley=scared.gif]Oh what pain, but at last it has gone.

Will it come back like that or is the worst over, also what can I eat, been through the cupboard thin soup, and nearest shop 4 miles away, no transport either:-? must be better cos I am Hungry;)

I am glad you feel better, I know precisely what form of pain you were dealing with. It makes the mind run wild with doubt and anxiety.. it is your absolute nemesis while under its influence, and yet it is merely a reminder of why we rely on the professionals who love to work on people mouths.

As for eating, just make sure you avoid the hole at all costs. I couldn't imagine a person having to return to the dentist to have a socket cleaned of food debris. Not good at all.

Sorry to hear about your pain and dry socket! I would stick to food that will slip down easily like soup or yoghurt, mash potato. Thats what I had after mine came out last week. Of course rinse with salt water once you have eaten. Keep on with the pain killers (but keep to the guidelines) it is easier to keep pain away before it gets too bad than it is to stop it when it has.
Hope you feel better soon!!

Hi everyone thanks for your replies, so far just had soup, chopped banana in yoghurt ( thank god my friend got me a yoghurt maker for my birthday.)

Pain is OK at the moment touchwood, but god I am Hungry:giggle:, I am one of those people that feel sick[smiley=sick.gif] if I don't get something substantial to eat.
