I'm in a position where I will most probably lose a 2nd tooth (already had wisdoms out too) and I will have to decide whether to leave a gap or get an implant. It's hard to decide.

It would be my first ever implant so I've been researching.

I would really like to hear anyone else's experience living with a dental implant.

Especially I'd be interested to hear whether the screw itself is titanium or zirconium, and how long you've had it, whether you have any pain or other negative effects long term from it, and whether the gum around it seems completely healthy without any sign of peri-implantitis.

Positive or negative experiences, either would be really helpful.

Many thanks to anyone who answers.

I have had 2 implants for the last 10 years. On my upper 1st premolars on both sides. The teeth were taken out when I was very 10 before I had braces and the gaps never closed.

They look like natural teeth and I love not having the gap.

No problems whatsoever, titanium screws I think

Thank you so much robbiebee, that's so good to hear.
If it's OK to ask, might I enquire if you have developed any autoimmune problems at all or funny illnesses that you could link to the titanium? I don't mean to be worrying at all, it's just every now and then I come across people online saying that titanium could possibly cause autoimmune down the line but I haven't seen evidence of that.
