Hey all, I am planning on getting out to a dentist when I can find someone who can handle anxiety - until then I want to work on my oral health as best I can.

I have a Sonicare toothbrush that's been rolling around my drawer, it's not top of the line it a maybe $70 a few years ago. Is that going to be good enough or should I invest in a higher priced brush?

I'm also looking for recommendations on tooth paste and mouth wash. I don't have cavities but I have really bad gum issues - reoccurring infections, gum recession, sensitivity. I really don't know what to look for when buying this stuff. I am looking to improve and focus on gum health.

Has anyone here tried anything that really helped ?

Thank you all this is the only community I feel safe being open about my dental struggles

Yes your toothbrush will be fine.

Try using sensodyne toothpaste for the sensitivity.

Hi, have a look around our website… these pages should help:

Your toothbrush sounds fine, it sounds like you might want to concentrate on the areas you’re currently missing (in between teeth). Interdental brushes/rubber sticks, floss, or a combination of these should help 😊.

Best of luck with your search for a phobic-friendly dentist! You can find some tips here:

Thank you ! Very informative

For sensitivity, Sensodyne is good.

If you want to feel really fancy, you can request a prescription for Colgate Prevident-Sensitive.

Aside from more fluoride, I’m not sure it is any different/better than Sensodyne, but I love the flavor and consistency. It is a bit more expensive than Sensodyne, but both are worth every cent.

As far as mouthwash, my periodontist recommended any kind that is antiseptic. (Btw, you may want to meet with a periodontist. They’re amazing.)

Good luck with your habits!
