Hello,
Are there psychologists out there who specialize in dental phobia? How can one find them? Thanks -

Hi SabrinaBee, I would think that any qualified Clinical Psychologist (preferably someone who specialises in anxiety disorders) would be able to help ?. I don't know what the best websites for finding a psychologist in the U.S. are - maybe someone else has some advice.

We've got a webpage on how to find a therapist, but it's mainly aimed at UK readers:

Generally speaking, a good fit between you and the psychologist you choose is really important. So you should interview more than one psychologist on the phone or in person before you make a decision on who to employ. Make sure you ask what experience the psychologist or therapist has with the type of issues you want help with, and find out about their approach. And most importantly, see if you like them and find them easy to talk to.

You could also try Hypnotherapy. I become a clinically trained hypnotherapist as im terrified of dentists but can't afford to see one my self. i guessed people would be in the same boat as me , so retrained to help other people, i can really really help :)

I am a clinical psychologist that helps patients with dental fears. My father is actually an orthodontist and I utilize ERP (exposure and response prevention), the gold standard for treating phobias. I combine virtual reality and an in person dental office visit when treating patients. Feel free to email me to learn more at [email address removed by moderator]

@Rubinpsychology could you please share your name so we can ensure that you are licensed? We’ve had problems on this forum in the past with people claiming to be clinical psychologists when they weren’t. Many thanks!

Of course! Leah Rubin, PsyD. I am licensed in NY, NJ and FL. You can view my website here: www.drleahrubin.com

If you are in New England, the Anxiety Disorders Treatment Center at the Institute of Living in Hartford Connecticut is great.
