Had a root canal about a little over a month ago. The tooth had had a filling in it before, but due to my fears I hadn’t been going for cleanings. In the summer my face on the left side (tooth is on bottom left all the way in the back) started to hurt and have pain in the upper jaw. Endo said it was referred pain and did a root canal.

Now, a bit more than a month and my tooth hurts and feels like it’s burning, and it hurts my face and sends pressure and pain up to my eye and to under my nose. It also makes my eye seem to be dry?

I went back to endo and he said just to wait and let it heal, and the only other thing we could do is pull it.

The thing is, it only gets sore and hurts when I use my tongue or finger to push the tooth in one direction. It also hurts when I bite down directly on it. After agitating it on purpose it hurts for the day, but then gets better and is not noticeable anymore.

I’m terrified my trigeminal nerve has been affected by the tooth decay and I will be in pterrible pain for the rest of my life.

Not possible. So put that one out of your head.

I'm not convinced about the endo's diagnosis, maybe try and obtain a second opinion, I can't see a mechanism for a lower tooth to cause those symptoms.
It does sound like the bite on the root canal treated tooth might be a bit off, but that shouldn't cause the other things you're talking about.

I’m confused as well. I don’t understand. It is a big tooth and since it is all the way in the back, I feel like it would be close to the trigeminal nerve? I don’t understand what else other than nerve pain could the burning sensation be, although it my endless self diagnosing I understand it could be a ligament nerve problem, as that is the one that remains?

Does the facial pressure and pain seem like further infection? I appreciate your reply so much, I am already researching another Endodontist in my area.

Doesn't matter, all the teeth on the bottom arch have their own little individual nerve supply. It's slightly different on the upper arch.

That's what I meant when I said the bite was off. But that would absolutely NOT cause your symptoms around the upper teeth.

Honestly I can't really diagnose from the limited information I have here. You need somebody to physically look at the area.

That’s fair. I really appreciate the response, you’re doing the lords work around here!!
