I have a severe dental phobia which has gotten much worse over the last few months due to the fact that my wisdom teeth started coming in fast. The discomfort in my mouth has made me afraid to brush my teeth so now I’m having severe plaque build up. (My whole mouth is uncomfortable not just the back where my wisdom teeth are). I don’t know what to do because I’m terrified of going to the dentist. I have a referral to go to an oral surgeon which I only got thanks to my primary care physician but even with the referral I can’t bring myself to call and even make a consultation appointment. This is getting out of hand. I’m so uncomfortable. My primary care doctor gave me Xanax to calm me to get me to appointments but so far I’ve done 2 “trial runs” and I feel absolutely nothing from it. (The original instructions were one 0.25 pill an hour before appointment which didn’t work so I tried two (on my next trial run) and that did nothing either). I was really hopeful the Xanax would help me and it didn’t so I feel like I’m back to square one..

Hi there,
would it be an idea to go back to your primary care doctor and see whether they can give you another medication or change the dose so that it works?

@Enarete hello, I actually have a follow up scheduled for next week to talk about how my anxiety medicine is doing since they put me on an every day medication for that recently (which unfortunately hasn’t helped either) but I’m hoping to talk to them about upping that dose and either upping the Xanax or trying something else for the appointment anxiety.
