Good morning. Im confused and a bit panicky about what iv googled today. So im asking for advise so i can sleep. Iv just signed up with a dentist and waiting for my first check up. I have a bad receading gum above a crowned tooth. Years ago i had a cyst removed from the gum but now and again i get a small amount of puss coming from that tooth, it never hurts or bleeds and clears up with saltwater. The Iv seen a hygienist who as give my gums a good clean and as assured me i have no problem my gums are very healthy and teeth are strong and my receading gums are due to my bite ( i have bucked teeth). But i went onto google....i know and now i thinking all bad things and dare not go the dentist case its really bad news. Iv even read antibiotics do not work on gum infections..please help put my mind at rest. Thank you.

Well if there's pus coming from the tooth (how do you know it's pus?) then there's something going on that needs looking at.

But given that the hygienist thinks things are OK then perhaps you might be mistaken about what's actually being discharged.

Seems the only way you're going to get any mental respite back is to get it checked by the dentist...

Antibiotics work fine on gum infections. Where the heck did you find that little gem?

Thanks Gorden. Its like a clear pus if you see what i mean. A dentist scared me years ago after doing an xray saying these things can spread to other teeth and can even kill you in the end. Iv had this for 40 + years and im still ok.

I'm getting a bit sick of typing the same thing out over and over again... this is utter rubbish, oral bacteria are fragile wee things and easy meat for a functioning immune system.

If your immune system is so bad that it can't deal with them, then you've got much bigger things to worry about...

Does it have a foul taste and or a bad smell? Pus is generally associated with an acute infection, which would be causing you a lot more bother really.
