Hi,

I have Constant jaw pain under the ear and neck pain which is ongoing for an year now. Have seen multiple dentists, ent and oral surgeon. No definite diagnosis or relief yet.

This post is about the tongue issue. I have used a new mouth wash recently (for the last 4 days). That's the new thing I did in the last week. I am using the same brand Mouth wash for few months but this is a new bottle of that brand(bought online) which I started 4 days back. I noticed my base of the tongue area is red and looks swollen. It's very sore constantly and bit itchy. I feel like skin bruised feel when I run my tongue over that area.
Will this itchiness and redness with Swelling go away.

Is this normal or should I go to dentist immediately? I am scared to go to dentist. Been running around dentists and specialists for an year now and without any relief for my jaw and neck pain. This tongue pain and redness is freaking me out.

Nothing was spotted the day before and this redness appeared yesterday morning when I woke up.

Is this something serious? Will it go away on its own? Is it related to jaw and neck pain in anyway. I took ibuprofen yesterday to ease the discomfort.

Attaching the pics. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks a lot.

It looks a bit like an allergic reaction. Stop the mouthwash ASAP, not sure what you hope to achieve with it anyway, Ibuprofen can cause a reaction too so consider switching to another painkiller if it doesn't improve in 24 hrs.

Thanks for the response doctor.
I am not a mouth wash person. I didn't go for dental cleaning for more than an year now since I have jaw pain. I can't open my mouth wide for the cleaning. I see some white patches at the base of my teeth. So I started using the mouth wash in a thought that it will remove that white patch.

I took 2 doses of ibuprofen today. The swelling is still there but the redness reduced. I will send a pic. But the soreness and itchy feel still present. Not sure if I should go to dentist asap for this.

Give it another 48 hrs, if it's improving.
