Replacing old fillings

I have lots of old "mercury" type fillings. Do they need replacing & if so what is the procedure? Does it hurt? As a dental phobic I only go when I have to as there are no NHS in my area & I simply can't afford private treatment except emergencies.

Not necessarily. They only need replacing if there is a problem with them. The only problem is that the only way to tell if there's a problem is for a dentist to look at them...
