Root canal endured. Feel pretty good. Didn’t love cold test.

Earlier today I endured a root canal.

It wasn’t fun, but I’m glad they got the necrotic tissue out.

While I can’t say the little hammer test or electrical current test felt good, the only part of the whole experience I’d mind going through again was the cold test.

Were I to need another root canal I wouldn’t be upset, but I’d be certain to ask them if the cold test was required.

All that said, I encourage anyone reading this to have courage, and to be not afraid to ask questions, even during the procedure. No one should be afraid to ask to pause the procedure, either.

My advice: find a kind, competent endodontist and go for it!

Hey, this is lovely Dg6300! :) Well done and thanks for sharing this! I guess loving root canals would be difficult (and not quite normal), so enduring one is a great outcome!

Thank you, @Enarete ! I feel pretty good, and look forward to getting my crown (?) Thursday.

Also, it is good to see you again! It has been five years since I joined, and I'm glad to see that you continue to help so many people. I hope the good karma you've generated has helped you on your journey.

Thank you for standing by me during my gum graft (which went well) and my wisdom teeth (which were a medium-sized debacle) back in 2017.

Have a great new year my friend!

I am scheduled for a crown appointment tomorrow, a week after my root canal.

I can’t say that I have anxiety, per se, but more exhaustion:

I know that the tooth in question is fragile. The current situation can’t continue.

I guess I’m slightly anxious about the injections, since that is what sucked about the root canal.

I just want to be over this. The dead tooth had to go; I just wish this was over and I could eat anything again. I want to move on with my life.

I’ll post this time tomorrow, after the appointment.

Will the crown be done by the same dentist who did the root canal? At any case, I was wondering whether telling them about how that injections sucked last time may be a good idea. There may be able to make sure to do it differently or be extra careful this time. Also, injections can be paused too - at least my dentist encourages me to stop at any time.

May all go well, you're doing a great job enduring treatment! Looking forward to read your updates :)

Thanks @Enarete ! I remembered your encouragement while in the chair.

It turns out I only needed a filling, and not a crown, thank goodness.

Overall I’m glad the tooth is fixed, at least for now. I’ll keep an eye on it, since I don’t want to go through the pain/ache I had when it was dead.

Otherwise I’m ready to move on. So not so much anxiety (though I did have that) but exhaustion. I’m glad I took care of, and for the skills of my dental specialist team.

All’s well that ends well. Thanks for listening!
