Root canal how long is safe to wait for second treatment!

I have had six fillings done using sedation and one of the fillings needed a root canal. It was causing me so much pain after the filling. The dentist is amazing he did the first part of root canal treatment drilled into tooth and killed the nerve. Anyone know if it’s safe to leave the second part 5 to 6 weeks due to Christmas and being booked up and me needing sedation. I am so scared every time I get pain

I’m not a dentist but I had a gap of six weeks between stages because I was ill (tonsillitis, nothing to do with my teeth!) when the next appointment was scheduled, then the endodontist was on holiday. It was absolutely fine.
