Hey - thank you for reading & your time.

I have a back lower tooth which ended up more filing than tooth & advised to get a crown but waited till after I gave birth as advised. 3m after I had my baby tooth hurt & saw a dentist who said my gum was inflamed & I cleaned and used corsodyl & went away (he said common post partum) I then booked and had a crown (temporary) after which I was getting pain - dentist gave it 3 weeks but pain persisted (like a gnawing, pressure pain). She recommended root canal which I had done yesterday.

I am still getting that pressure gnawing pain. Today I felt better and only had paracetamol in the morning but by this evening it’s picked up & I’ve just taken ibuprofen to try and ease it before bed. I feel like everything is inflamed which google tells me is typical.

I am so anxious though. I feel so panicky this pain is never going to end, or I’ll get ill from all the pain meds ( hate taking). I’m tired and sleep deprived from having a baby and just want some reassurance.

When she did root canal the final root bled at the bottom & I felt pain as she was working on it. It’s where all the pain has been coming from.

This was just part 1, I go back in 2 weeks as it’s a temporary filing in the one that bled and then for proper crown fitting.

Why did it bleed & hurt? Is it going to work ? When will this end….! I wanted to ask my dentist but she had run over and I was rushed out. I’m so panicky about it all. I had an afternoon of pain free and I was so hopeful it had worked 😢

It bled and hurt because it was acutely inflamed. This will not happen again now most of the root canal has been done. It should work fine in the end, it's just going to take a wee bit of time.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve never been told there’s an infection or had antibiotics - is that ok? It’s just one of those things it’s become inflamed?

You had an infection in the tooth, which is why it needed root canal. You didn't need antibiotics.

Oh okay that’s good that not having antibiotics wasn’t a problem. Will the root canal get rid of the infection? (Sorry you’re probably thinking stupid question) - thank you!
Tooth is already less painful and not taking any pain killers now but occasionally do get some pain or sensitivity / gnawing but mild. Sound normal? Still waiting for 2nd part and the permanent crown.

Not a stupid question at all. Yes, the root treatment is designed to get rid of the infection. Sounds perfectly normal so far.

So I am due to have the final appointment tomorrow to complete the root canal. The pain had completely gone but a week ago part of the temporary filling came out which was replaced and 3 days later came out again, then a few days later more came out so I went back and go it re done again. This was yesterday and since the tooth pain has been back (not as bad but same feeling). My anxiety is really high this means it’s re-infected and she won’t be able to complete it tomorrow or root canal won’t work- could it just be normal because temp filing issue??
Sorry to ask

It's just because a few bacteria have got in during the time it wasn't sealed up, don't worry about it.

Really appreciating your advice. I think my dentist is busy/ stressed but once she’s done what she’s doing I’m just ushered out and given little chance to ask anything. I had the final appointment on Thursday so am on day 5 now. When she did the canal that had bled the first time (so temp filled) I felt a bit of pain again at the bottom and a bit of pain when she was drying it. She’s then put crown on. First couple of days was uncomfortable and all felt inflamed then I had a good day or 2 with just small amount of sensations and now day 5 its feeling worse again, nothing unbearable but a niggly, sore, pressure / inflamed feeling. Some google searches suggest this can all still be the healing and post procedure recovery. Could this be the case? It’s been so much with this tooth and I’m so anxious not going to be pain free. My dentist said if this hasn’t worked I need to either see specialist for a LOT of money or have tooth pulled. I’m super anxious and any advice or re assurance would be awesome. Thank you.

Day 5 it could still be healing, try to avoid "testing" it by biting on it or wiggling it (easier said than done I know!).
