Hi. My dentist sent me to a specialist about a root filling i need. The specialist was lovely and explained that in his opinion the dark area had been there since i had my crowns fitted when i was 16. Im now 59. He said my bone structure etc was fine. In his opinion i was best going back to the dentist yo have other work done to build up my confidence first as i need fillings done. Now this is where the problem is, my dentist, although its in writing believes the specialist is wrong and she says shes reluctant to do any more work until i have the root filling done? What do i do? For a start i need to save up to have it done as iv gone private for all this. Please advise. Thank you

You've got 2 choices basically. Find a different general dentist who will be happy with the specialist's opinion or find a different specialist who will go with the dentist's opinion.

Is the questionable tooth going to be crucial to any work planned by the general dentist? If so, then they're probably right to want it definitively treated.

If it's not then I'd side with the endodontist.

Hi Gorden. The rest of the work is nowhere near the crowne so thats my dilemma.
Its difficult enough getting over anxieties without two dentist playing, in my opinion, the right and wrong game.

Thank you again for your advise.

I must admit, I find it odd that the general dentist doesn't trust the specialist whom the have a relationship with, after all they referred you to that endodontist.

I know it sounds crazy to me too. But l’ve even seen the report he sent and it clearly states he recommends i build up confidence with her first as the problem tooth as been there for 40+ years.
