Rubber band using during filling

Hello,

I go the dentist then when I come back I get all worked up because I’ve forgotten to ask things. This is what’s happening to me now.

I had a lower molar filling today, which then ended up as the molar behind it also.

The dentist said something about using a ‘rubber band’ and making sure it was the right size to go round my tooth? I think that’s what he said. It was not a rubber dam.

It felt like a rubber band wrapped around part of my tooth from what I could tell along with being very numbed up.

Please can someone let me know if this was just a tool used to separate the tooth during the procedure (and it would have then been removed?) and not actually that I’ve ended up with rubber left in my mouth underneath the filling somewhere.

I know this might seem like a silly thing to panic about but that’s where my head goes. If anyone knows what it was then please can you explain it to me? I’ve searched on here for answers but nothing came up.

Thank you in advance.

Matrix band? We use them all the time for fillings.
We do use elastic bands for orthodontic work but can't think of a use in a filling, I suspect you might have misheard. I'm pretty certain that if one was used they would definitely not have left it there.

@Gordon Thanks so much. I got the fillings done 9 days ago and ‘in between’ the two teeth (on the side), could feel the new filling with my tongue. It felt like some food stuck in the middle of my teeth and like some sort of excess from the filling.

I have just flossed and the bit I felt before has come off. I’ve had numerous fillings over the years but never had this happen. Do you know if this is part of my tooth, or part of the filling?

I put it in a little bag for if I need to go back and show my dentist.

Thank you.

It's a bit of filling material, probably a bit of excess that got overlooked. I wouldn't worry much about it.
