I had an extraction - first molar - on Wednesday. The root was cracked and the tooth couldn’t be saved.
I had the procedure under sedation as I’m extremely phobic. The dentist did say it was a rough extraction and the tooth had to be removed in pieces.
I also had a scale & deep clean & a filling while under.
Three days later, I’m still in so much pain. I feel as if I’ve been punched in the face and have the worst headache.
I’m taking both paracetamol and inbuprofen and it’s just taking the edge off. I’m doing salt water rinses and using Gengigel too.

I can’t get a good look but it does look a little white in there - how do you tell if it’s granulation tissue or a dry socket?

I’m so scared it’s a dry socket and going to get worse. I can’t think of anything else.

Help please!

If it's dry socket it'll hurt like a b*stard. If it's granulation tissue it won't. From the sounds of it, it's likely to be a dry socket. Phone your dentist, there should be somebody on call over the weekend and you can get it looked at properly.

NB treatment for dry socket is pretty easy on the patient, not nearly as bad as getting a tooth out!
