Scared it’s not stained tartar

My back two teeth on each bottom side has brown/yellow along the gumline and I’m scared it’s a cavity. I’m hopeful that it’s mostly just stained tartar. No pain or anything just a little rough to the touch. Thankfully going in for a my first cleaning in a while after picking up better habits. (Staining is not as dark in person, also slightly above gumline)

Would decay feel more inward than this? Aside from feeling a little rough it’s all about the same level as the rest of the tooth.

@Kml1998 it has been a few years unfortunately but better habits and an upcoming appointment should get me back on track
