Scared of possible tooth extraction during apicoectomy

I found out right before thanksgiving that I need to have an apicoectomy done on tooth #9. About 5 years ago, I had a root canal treatment done and a porcelain crown placed. I have had no pain since then but I noticed a small abscess above the tooth so dentist referred me to a specialist. He said I had a cyst from an infection and he needed to remove it by doing an apicoectomy. I have this underlying fear (by reading on the internet) that something is going to go wrong and they will have to extract my tooth and I will be toothless. So, how common is tooth extraction from an apicoectomy? Am I over reacting?

Very very very uncommon. I'm more likely to go on a date with Scarlett Johanson and Gal Gadot :)
