Hi everyone.

Has anyone had experience with the medication Triazolam?

I've been prescribed Triazolam 0.25 mg to take for a gum graft and bone graft surgery I'm going to have. I'm supposed to take one pill the night before and one pill an hour before my appointment. I'm also going to use nitrous oxide (laughing gas), during the surgery.

My periodontist prescribed it because I get extremely anxious at the dentist. I went to see him because I've been having gum pain throughout my mouth, but the worst pain is around the lower front teeth. The surgery will involve 6 teeth.

I'm told I have paper thin gums around these teeth and severe bone loss. The doctor is going to use an Alloderm gum graft and a medicated powder to regenerate the bone.

This would be my first time ever trying an anxiety medication and it's making me nervous. I'm concerned about over sedation between the Triazolam and the nitrous. But at the same time the idea of this surgery terrifies me and I don't want to be aware of what is going on during.

Just wondering how I can expect it to make me feel? Any side effects? Has anyone here taken an oral anxiety medication and nitrous together for procedures?

Any advice, stories of experience or any feedback would be great.

Thanks.

JJ

That is a popular alternative to IV sedation for practitioners who lack that ability. It is not as predictable and has its drawbacks but certainly is a reasonable approach. I would expect that the dentist has had a lot of experience with that combination.

Hi.

Thank you for your reply.

Are you aware of any side effects to look out for with the Triazolam?

Thanks.

amnesia that persists for a couple of days
It is not a good drug to be used as first intended but seems to work well for dental needs.
