"Settle" from Root Canal

Can I hear about how long it took for your tooth to "settle" after root canal and just what does that mean? Does it mean the actual tooth not hurting or does it mean totally pain-free, ligaments and such?

I think it took about a week or two for the tooth to no longer be tender but I remember always feeling a sense of fullness in the tooth, like I was very aware of the filling and it felt like a strange pressure deep inside the tooth. That sensation lasted until I got the permanent crown about 6 weeks later. I don’t know exactly where the pain came from but I assume it’s the surrounding tissues/ligaments because the tooth is supposed to be dead after a root canal which means it should not have sensation...at least that’s my understanding of it.
