I am scheduled for 2 impacted teeth and 2 molars to be extracted tomorrow under general sedation. I don't think there's any way in hell I could be awake for it. I am extremely emetophobic and so afraid that I am going to vomit that I'm ready to cancel the surgery. What should I do? I know I can't eat or drink for 8 hours beforehand. Also, how out of it will I be when I leave?
Are the antibiotics necessary or just a precaution?
My second phobia (thanks a lot to the jerk who attacked me in my car and left me for dead) is people driving me, haven't done it in 10 years and obviously after GA, I can't drive myself. HELP, I AM TERRIFIED.
P.S. I know that pain meds after surgery can cause anxiety so I'm going to just try Advil.
TIA!

Hi Baby 1441

I had alot of teeth out under GA and one of my fears is being sick, something that appeared about the same time as my dental phobia. I asked the anaesthetist to give me an anti sickness injection which I assume he did because I was absolutely fine.

When I was released I felt very, very tired and to be honest I couldn't have driven home - in fact I can bearly remember the journey.

The antibiotics are just a precaution. I took pain killers regularly after my extractions but had no pain at all, even when I forgot to take them!!

Would you feel comfortable with a relative driving you home or maybe a female friend?

You will be fine tomorrow and remember, there is nothing to fear but fear itself ...............

:D

I'm emetophobic also. I had this same thing done, as well as jaw surgery another time. Never did I feel sick or vomit. As you know, you're worried for nothing.
