Hi there. My name is Kaylee and after reading some of these posts i have the courage to make my own.
I have a very bad case of Pericoronitis, swelling, cannot sleep... it hurts to talk, its just painful to be honest. Pain killers and ibuprofen is not working, i thought i'd try bonjela to try and numb it, it does absolutely nothing.. salt water is doing nothing for me either, literally nothing is working. So enough is enough i rang up my dentist....

I have not been to the dentist since 2009... thats 5 years. and im not proud of it either.. and after enduring a bit of a telling off from the receptionist she said i missed 3 check ups. I told her i have a really painful case of pericoronitis and i need to get my wisdom tooth extracted asap because nothing is helping me, i need some sort of release from this pain.

So as the conversation continues the receptionist said i need to pay for my 3 check ups first, and then they can extract it... I said to the receptionist. i dont think you understand how much pain im actually in??? how long is it going to take for me to do all these check ups.. i need help asap... and she said no i dont, im not a dentist i dont know what pericoronitis even is, but you need to have those 3 check ups first. and i said why 3 though. cant i just have 1 and then move forward, and shes like no. She then said, can you call back so we can get your number, and we will then add you to the system. So i said Okay, i rang back .................. .... ........ no answer.

So ive given up again with that dentist because it is a total joke.

what is somebody supposed to do when even pain killers are not doing the job? its so bad i cant deal with this pain... i need to try and find another dentist i supose.. :(

Wouldn't it be great if my wisdom tooth just came through naturally.. and everything was fixed naturally and i didnt have to go to the dentist. Im already TERRIFIED of dentists.. the fact i have to go and search for a new one is honestly making me want to break down haha.

Not sure how you can only have missed three checkups if you haven't been for five years - or are they saying you booked appointments three times and then didn't turn up ?? Anyway as I see it you have a couple of choices. You could invoke your local emergency dental service if such a thing exists where you are, or you could march into your dentist's surgery and have it out with them in person. Personally I'd be inclined to try the latter unless you really have given up on them - you might found you get a different receptionist and you might also find them less keen to be awkward if you are standing in front of them.

Hi I would write to the dentist and address it to him/her by name. You have spoken to a jumped up receptionist with a power struck attitude. Don't let her put you off, there is no way a dentist is going to do three check ups on your teeth you only need one, and if you are in pain it is his/her decision to make as to treatment not the person that answers the phone. By her own admission she is not a dentist and didn't even know what you were talking about.

The dentist is the boss not her, he/she will decide what is the best treatment. You could try ringing again and asking for an appointment, someone else might answer the phone hopefully that can do their job properly. If it is the same person ask them in a calm manner if they are refusing to give you an appointment, if they say yes then don't tell them just write to the dentist, or ask to speak to the practise manager and see if they can help.

If you have made three check up appointments and not turned up then they are within their rights to charge you for these appointments but if you have not made any appointments then she is talking rubbish. These have not been missed appointments. You have chosen not to go which is your choice.

You are wanting an appointment now because you are in a lot of pain and need an urgent appointment as soon as possible, the dentist will then decide what to do.

GOOD LUCK :clover::clover::clover: and all the best to you :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::hug5::butterfly:

Stay calm and polite when you contact them again, this receptionist is in the wrong.
