Hi,
As the title mentions, for about a week now I’ve had a very small, painless, smooth bump behind my lower front teeth. It is the same color as the surrounding gum tissue and does not bleed or hurt me. I floss every day and I brush 2 to 3 times a day with an electric toothbrush, using a high fluoride toothpaste as well. I do have fillings in both of my lower front teeth, but they are small and didn’t need any work done during my last check up and set of x-rays. I had a clean bill of health last time I went to the dentist and I am not due to return until May. I’m trying to determine whether or not this is worth seeing a dentist and shelling out a lot of money for as my insurance is not cover spontaneous visits or if it can wait until my next check up.

I am a 25-year-old female, I do not smoke cigarettes, but I do occasionally smoke marijuana. I do not drink. I am very diligent about my oral hygiene routine and I don’t miss the day. I have essentially eliminated sugar from my diet and I do not eat many carbs and I do not eat snacks throughout the day. I only drink water and maybe one sugar-free cup of coffee a day. I’m worried this could be an abscess, but I’m not sure. I have attached a photo, although it is hard to see because it matches the surrounding tissue color. I can feel it very well with my tongue. It does not get bigger, bleed, itch, pus or hurt.

Hi,

I have the same issue. For me it’s smooth, soft and almost like a skin tag. It has two small dots. I’m went to dentist and she said to keep an eye on it for two weeks.

Certainly not an abscess. Could be a bit of thickening of the gum tissue due to some trauma when eating/chewing. There's sometimes a bony bump in the midline of the mandible where the 2 sides fuse together as it develops, but that's usually lower down and right in the middle...
It's really nothing to worry about though.

Thank you so much, Gordon. That’s a relief. It has already gotten a bit smaller this morning. Hopefully it stays that way! I appreciate the help and sorry for posting this in the wrong section originally.
