I know this may be a long shot but since I'll have my temporary partial in,I was wondering if i would have less of a chance of getting a dry socket if I smoke and I don't much(2-4 a day).I smoked when I had my upper non-impacted wizzies out and when I had apicoectomys done(same area as the extractions are going to happen) and nothing happened.I know you're probably going to say don't do it but I must have one so I can sleep!!!!I do have nicotine gum which tastes awful and chewing gum is probably the last thing I should be doing.Would like some input. Thanks!!!

Smoking increases the chance of dry socket. Whether it's worth the risk or not is up to you. Percentage wise it probably goes from 1:5000 to about 1:4000, I posted the other risk factors earlier on for dry socket btw, smoking is only one of them, albeit the most powerful one.

Thanks.I had it done and so far I haven't smoked in 36 hours.I'll try to make it to 72 even though my dentist(who is a smoker also) told me a day is ok.
