I have a bridge abutment tooth that is causing me very strange sensations and sometimes low level but long term pain (i.e. all day long sometimes). This has been going on for about 4 months now and I am on my third temporary bridge whilst I have various treatments to see if it settles down.

The tooth has been root filled twice now. There is no swelling or any indication of infection in the gum or the tip of the root but I cannot bite on the tooth and strangely, breathing in air or drinking hot or cold fluids can seem to make the gum and tooth feel as though they are "contracting" which can then set off the discomfort and /or pain.

My dentist can see nothing on X-rays so does anyone know what might be going on?

If I lose the tooth it means I lose an entire bridge and therefore a total of 5 teeth so I need to try every possibility before having it extracted.

Hi I know just how you feel....I went through the same thing myself, though mine has been somewhat complicated.

If I were you I would go back to your dentist, IT COULD be that one or more of the teeth are a little high causing sensitivity..and just needs a minor adjustment...

If you haven't already, you should maybe consult a specialist endodontist, there could be a missed canal in the tooth, which they would be better equipt to find using an endodontic microscope. This is more likely in a molar tooth. Good luck.
