Hello,

I have a 5 yrs old son. He has had a loose tooth for a while now, and recently i noticed another tooth coming out on the roof of his mouth, near the tooth that has become loose. I took him to his dentist, after x-ray, the dentist determined it was a supernumerary tooth (an extra tooth) which has to be surgically extracted he said. The dentist was going to refer him out to have this procedure done, but couldn't find the code for this procedure, meaning that my sons insurance does not cover this. He mentioned it could cost close to $1,000 if he referred us out. He scheduled an appointment in his office to do this him self in just a few days. I was concerned about this, because im not sure if this should only be done by an oral surgeon, or if the dentist is able to preform this in his office with just numbing the area, and some drink he said would make my son drowsy for the procedure. And comments?concerns????

The supernumerary is visible in his mouth? Frankly it's an extremely easy procedure technically, your child is familiar with this dentist and trusts him, I'd say it's much better for the job to be done at your local dentist than having an OS do it.
