Swollen and bruised(?) lump on gum around wisdom tooth

Hello! I’ve got a painful lump that has appeared around my lower left wisdom tooth. It looks purple like it’s full of blood. I have had this flap of gum over the tooth where it’s erupted but dentist says it’s fine to leave and it should go away with time. Could this sore purple lump be an acute flare up that will subside or is it something more serious? I’m flying long haul tomorrow and I’m so so scared that I’m going to be in a lot of pain. What can I do? Thanks so much
