Temporary filling in my broken tooth

I have a tooth that the filling has fell out of. My tooth has then broke right down to the gum. I am in agony and can't get seen till Monday. I have been advised to buy a temporary filling kit but I don't know if this will be of any use as my tooth is so badly broken. Can someone tell me if it will or will not? Thanks.
