I have an appointment on Thursday to get quite a bit of dental work and I'm scared. Last month I had a root canal, but now I still need to have the final crown placement, a scaling and root planing on one quadrant with application of Arestin and a regular cleaning on the rest of my teeth. They said for the scaling that they would use a needle-free anesthetic, so I'm assuming they mean Oraqix. Has anyone had this procedure? I've always been terrified of the dentist, and had some horrible experiences when I was a kid. I have to keep convincing myself not to cancel the appointment. I've read quite a bit about the procedure, but would really like to hear firsthand from a few people about whether or not it will be painful. Please help me make it through this.

I don't really have any knowledge of your questions, but if I may ask how did your root canal go? I am getting one tues and another in a couple weeks so just seeing what it was like for others.

It shouldn't be painful at all with numbing - whether oraqix or standard LA.

The root canal was fine, not much worse than having a regular filling. The fear leading up to it was by far the worst part (well, that and the bill.) I once had a very bad reaction to dental anesthetic, so the shots were by far the worst part. Once everything was numb, it was really just boring and tedious. I took my iPod along to drown out the unpleasant sounds.
