I’ve dealt with debilitating fear around the dentist since I was kid yet maintained perfect teeth. When I was pregnant, I had HG and the all day sickness for months destroyed my front teeth. I’m getting impressions in 3 days and I’m terrified it’ll rip what’s left of my broke teeth off, the holes are in the sides etc and not just a clean break. I’ve never done impressions, how hard does it get? If it fills in the hole on the sides of my front teeth will it rip them out? My extractions are set for the 16th and I’m doing impressions now to make sure I have a temporary plate to wear in public with my kiddo. Please help me understand what to expect

I'm not a dentist but have had many impressions done over the years. It's not a pleasant experience but I don't think it will be anything as bad as you might be imagining. A dentist would know better but I don't think it gets all that hard, it firms up yes but I think there is a bit of give in the material as it is being taken out. And if there was any chance of tooth being ripped off during the procedure, then I doubt any dentist would attempt it. By the way, it can feel like all your teeth are coming away with the material when they take out the tray but don't panic, they stay put.

Try to keep breathing deep and slow before and during the impression and you'll be fine. :hug4:

Nicely answered by Sudzs but just to add, if there's any danger to the teeth then a quick coating of vaseline or similar can be used as extra insurance. I've never had a tooth come out in an impression, even ones that were literally flapping in the wind due to gum disease :-)
