Its been awhile since I've posted on here but I kinda feel like I had to come back. Since my last posts, nothing has really changed. The last treatment I had(forefully) was about 6 years ago when I had 5 teeth taken out from the top(including my two front teeth). I ended up with one of those clip on dentures. the Dentist I saw was horrible, she knew I was scared of the dentist and she didn't seem to care. She kept using the "scaler" to poke and prod my teeth with and it hurt a lot but when I asked her to stop, she treated me like I was a child "Look, I need to do whats needed if you want this sorted". The past 2 years I have had 2 dental abcesses and I have one right now. I haven't been to the dentist at all from having them. The past 2 times I've gotten antibiotics from my GP but I've never went to a dentist. Thsi 3rd one I now have has swollen my face but it isn't extreme swelling like the previous 2 times and it isn't painful at all(which surprised me a lot!). I'm going to try and get antibiotics from my GP again as I plan to get a referral from my main GP next week to the dentist located at my local hospital as its the only place that will facilitate treatment under GA. I'm terrified and embarassed about going, my teeth aer horrible and the denture I have has gotten itself stuck on the teeth its clipped onto so I've been unable to clean it properly due to this and I'm horrified at the thought of the dentist getting it removed and seeing "gunk" thats on it as I know I probably would be. I don't know why I had to end up like this, I just want normal teeth and a normal smile but its soooo hard, like my thread title says, its torture.

Hi Callum and :welcome: back,

so sorry to hear that you haven't been able to get the help you deserve so far :(. Could you ask your GP to transfer you to the Community Dental Service? They provide special care dentistry, which includes caring for people with dental phobias. I am sure you would qualify. I am also sure that they would not berate you for the condition of your teeth (or for anything else, for that matter).

Are you in Scotland (just asking because of your name)?

i hear you mate, i too have been going to my GP for antibiotics but there comes a point when they say no, i had eight extractions 14 years ago and i awoke before they were finished, after that i vowed never to go back but my teeth have had other ideas.

now i can say it was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, but things have apparently gotten a lot better since then. i have seen a community dentist and they are very nice, they do not force anything on you.

i have had friends that have been getting work done recently and they have reported no problems at all, i am freaked because i need major work done but i am about to see a phobia specialist, i am hoping that she will help me through the work.

i suggest you see what help you can get for your phobia, ask your GP what your options are.

good luck and wish you well.
