:) Yes a smiley face because I have a molar that has become most sensitive to cold. No I'm not happy about that I am happy in that I know there is a good chance that by simply having a root canal performed by someone whom I trust my tooth will be in recovery. When I think of all of the alternatives I can't think of a nicer option than this root canal.
Of course dentists have teeth problems too!

I also have a troubling tooth that needs attention. I hope it gets resolved with a simple filling....

This is funny. I’m here now at the office waiting. He is running late due to another person who is in pain.

I always take that as a really good sign, not sure if anyone else does. But to me it says they are more concerned about doing it right and making people feel comfortable than getting everything done quick and pushing time. HOpe it goes well Dr Kimsey!

@comfortdentist @Dr. Daniel

I actually couldn't sleep last night keeping wondering about this one thing: if you are dentists, which means you know everything about teeth, decay, brushing, flossing and all that stuff, how is it possible you get dental problems too? Does getting older automatically mean getting dental problems no matter how much care ones take? Or is it more that you as dentists know how teeth work but sometimes do not take as much care as necessary? Please help me understand this. I for some reason absolutely assumed that dentists just don't get cavities :innocent:

In my case, I had a broken filling for a few years, it did not bother me and I kept on delaying treatment.

My quick reply that explains it all:
My personal physician died of cancer.

Very, very sorry you both find yourselves in need of dental treatment. Comfortdentist and Dr. Daniel...speaking of root canals, have either of you seen “Root Cause” currently on Netflix? I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Gordon, feel free to join in too!

Hi,

Thank you for referring us to this film. I hated it. Let me explain why:

Let's say for the sake of the argument, what they are saying is true (even though it is 50% bullshit) My problem with this film is the way it was made. The sound and vision are deliberated to create negative emotions and feelings by using visual pornography (of course, not sexual).
If you pay attention to the music, it is from the start dysphoric and negative through the film and only in at the end, as any Hollywood film should, it has a happy ending with happy music. Pathetic.
I myself have been busy with a video project TreatYourDentalFear.com and I always tried to make a create a positive experience among viewers, especially phobic without sugaring anything.
I don't understand how Netflix allowed this "film".

Right before my root canal retreat I had a friend wanting me to watch this film saying I must watch it and questioning me about root canals.. What I do know is I've had several and they have saved my teeth to keep them longer and functioning. So I wasn't interested in the tactics. never watched it.

I personally have had 3. As you know I’m part way through the next one now. This film was NOT based on the known science and much was simply made up. At least one person they referenced as an expert has lost his license. After practicing many years I have seen that many of these “doctors” are focused on getting the maximum money out of their patients.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I appreciate your honest take on the subject which already strikes fear in the heart of us dental phobes. Having only had one root canal that abscessed weeks later, was retreated, reabscessed months later and regrettably extracted, my experience is not what I would call positive. Having the tooth removed did not resolve any of my autoimmune issues as the movie would have you believe. ”Mockumentaries” like this equate to scaremongering and strive to capitalize on the mistrust and fear many of us have, unfortunately. Thank you for doing what you do to counter that.

Hi,

To whom may find it interesting: I got a new filling. All went well.

This makes me curious. How did it feel for you to get a filling as a dentist and what is different to ‚normal‘ people? :)

You know exactly what is happening the entire time and so you also know what can go wrong and how the entire time.
Having treated numerous dentists over the years dentists are the best patients as they hold completely still in whatever position you want them to be in. They know how difficult dentistry is to perform and so they try to make it as easy as possible. I have a lot of energy yet when I was having my root canal performed I didn't move at all.

Though the filling was performed by a friend, I did not spare her from feedback. She gave me tow injections (in two different locations) and one of them was painful, so I told her about it and she appreciated it (well ,she knows I take this topic seriously...)
For me, the enlightening aspect was the effect the anaesthesia had on me, right after the injection and before the filling itself. I felt a 2 minutes light headache, tiredness and dysphoria. It all went away after a few minutes and still significant in my experience.

Yes Dr Daniel like I said I shall give myself the first injection when I go back as I would rather have it not hurt.
