Hi I'm nearly 25 and have really bad gum disease and all my teeth are rotten I haven't been to the dentist in ten years and have not been looking after my teeth or gums which I know is my fault I am so scared of the dentist as had bad experience of it in the past and not had a good relationship with them I'm getting married in August and brought up the courage to go to the dentist to see what they could do and she said I need most of them out and that I couldn't have immediate dentures as my gums need to heel and waiting for the appointment to have all my teeth out I'm so worried that I'm not gonna have any teeth on my wedding day I probably left it so late I'm just so sad and I have panic attacks over the thought I'm worried about work I feel so embarrassed ?

I don't understand why your dentist won't give you immediate dentures. I'm no dentist, but everyone's gums have to heal post-extractions, and most people wear immediates just fine. I don't think it's right that you should be expected to go without while you heal, unless it's completely necessary for some reason. Hopefully one of our dentists can explain more.

You might want to seek a second opinion from a different dentist.

She says my gums have bad diseases and need to get them healthy as there quite swollen I'm taking anti biotics but don't know how she expects me to carry on with Day to day things with no teeth and my manager won't even give me time off work and worried I won't have no teeth for my wedding

You poor dear..I can only imagine what you must be going through worrying about all of this and not even being able to get time off from work to take care of it!

I'm with the others that have responded. Immediate dentures, to me at least, feel like a nice soothing bandage over my gums. I just had my extractions done last week and I'm really glad for them. I feel like the sockets have made and are keeping better clots in them because of the denture, which is important. I can't imagine what would warrant not being able to have them. They may not be functional or fit well until your gums heal, but at least you wouldn't be walking around toothless and dealing with the embarrassment
of that.

I would definitely talk to another dentist and maybe even more than one. Keep looking until you find someone you are comfortable with and really understand the answers they are giving you. Your boss won't give you the time off scheduled..could she fire you if you just flat out called in sick a couple of days? I timed my extractions so that my appointment was on a Thursday morning and that gave me four days off in a row with my normal days off. I feel mostly ready to head back tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply I'm scared to go another dentist and be humiliated all over again and plus I can't afford to spend more money to be told the exactly the same thing the dentist says it's gonna be more than a couple of days and it's my problem of going back to work toothless and being toothless on my wedding I'm having panic Attacks it's affecting everything I'm not eating ATM I don't wanna go anywhere I feel isolated already before anything is happened

Where are you located? I just had all of my uppers removed in January, and there were many denture specialists in my city (Toronto) who gave free consultations. If you're in a major city in North America, I imagine that you could find the same by googling. I chose not to have immediates, but all of the denture specialists that I spoke to were shocked, because they'd never had a patient who didn't want them. I think that you should definitely seek a second opinion, and find a kind dentist (most are), even if it costs you some money to do so.

Oh dear taking multiple teethes out is difficult to imagine, hope the swollen gums will soon heal and take it positively as the rotten teethes were removed. A second opinion is always good as littlelynnie also suggested

Thankyou I'm just waiting for the hospital I'm really not dealing with this well at all it's not the teeth being removed that's got me all upset it's just having no dentures straight away that's upsetting me

I'm not familiar with the UK system, but even if you have to pay, you really need to get a second opinion.

I suggest you make a post on our "Your Dentistry Questions Answered" section of this site, explaining exactly what your dentist said about your gums as for the reason why you can't have immediates, and hopefully a dentist there will see it and have more information for you.

Another thing you can do is contact your dentist and try to get an estimation of exactly how long you will be without dentures. You can phone/email them. You deserve an answer, and I can understand your panic about your wedding day.

Sometimes health care providers don't take people's concerns into account, and we have to really push them to get them to consider it.

Hang in there :hug4:

Thankyou for your reply I've posted on there hopefully get some answers I've asked the dentist and she says she can't see into the future which really doesn't help me at all

I'm sorry, but this dentist sounds terrible. It may be true that she can't see into the future, but she should understand how incredibly terrible it would be for you to be stuck without teeth, with a wedding coming up, with no information at all as to how long the process may take.

Again, I really urge you to get a second opinion elsewhere.

You poor thing.

Is there no more NHS dentists in the area that you could try? You were brace enough to go to one in the first place....you will probably find someone much better.
