Hi. New here and don’t know what to do about my dental issue. Hoping for some info and advice!
I have Sjogren’s disease, dry mouth, no saliva. Needless to say it’s destroyed my teeth over the years.
Tried everything to save them but they began snapping off at the gumline from decay under the gumline.
Also had bilateral mandibular Tori which had to be removed to be able to wear dentures.
Surgery was on January 8, 2024 in the hospital under general anesthesia. Of course entire mouth and face
sore, swollen, bruised. Where the were extracted it’s still tender but not unbearable. The Tori site is a different
story. I’ve been on 3 rounds of antibiotics, steroids, pain meds, special mouth rinse, etc.
The pain is still extremely severe. A deeper, throbbing pain which radiates from the Tori site up the side of my face,
and into my temples causing earache and headaches. Radiates down my neck to collar bone. Can’t eat anything but
soup, jello, ice cream and if my tongue rubs the area or the liquid touches it it’s extreme pain. Dr keeps saying just
needs time to heal. Okay, it’s getting worse not better. I finally asked him at my apt today if the jawbone where the
Tori were removed should be exposed. He said no, that’s why your in so much pain? Then he said that those pieces of
bone, from the Tori, should eventually fall off. Although they may need to numb the area and try to pry them off? What?!
I was told that during the Tori removal the gums would be cut and pulled back, Tori drilled and chiseled away, bone smoothed,
area cleaned, skin pulled over site and stitched. So why are my bones showing? Not a tiny sliver like a splinter, but the entire
area where Tori removed on both sides. 3/4-1 in long. 1/2 in high. Bright red gums around the area. The father did the surgery,
but have never seen him at any follow up apts, I see the son until today when I started asking if the exposed bone is mormal
and why am I in extreme pain after a month. Now referring me back to his father for apt next week. That’s when he started saying that the bone will pop off? Said it would be like an injury to a finger nail, once a new nail grows underneath the
damaged nail it will fall off? I can’t help but think there was something done wrong during the surgery and now they are
trying to figure out how to fix it? I do not want them numbing me and trying to pop the bone off? I was never told this before
today. Told skin would be pulled back over the jawbone and stitched. No exposed bone.
And wondering what my next step should be? Definitely something wrong. I can’t continue to live with the pain, but don’t want
to do anything to cause more pain or damage. Anyone have Tori removal experience?
