Hi, I am severely stressed by the dentist because when I had a root canal (though relatively painless) 10 yrs ago, I had an anaphylactic reaction to the antibiotics, and now I associate any dental procedure with that terror. I am gradually working on it. I was pretty proud of myself that when my tooth broke recently (the same one from the root canal) and needed to be extracted and replaced with an implant, I went in with only local anesthesia for the extraction and first bone graft.
The problem is that the oral surgeon showed me my scan and how the screw for the implant can't fit within my bone. He said I'm in the 1% of people who need multiple bone grafts. They will have to do a more involved bone graft in 4 months after the first one heals, and they will place the implant at that time. I definitely want to be sedated since they said it's a much more involved procedure and they recommended it, but I am also scared to go under or have an allergic reaction. I'm also frustrated because the healing from just the extraction was painful (about a 5-6 on a scale to 10). I'm only on day 3 and it's gone down but still not able to eat normally or do strenuous exercise.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? How did you handle your anxiety and impatience? I hate the flipper...I have a lisp with it. Thank you. TGF this forum.
